Letter from the Pastor

Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

A blessed and glorious summer has flown by and before we know it winter and the joy of advent will be upon us. While it is time to start planning those events we will have the beauty of fall and an opportunity packed September to make the most of it.

By the time you see this it will be church picnic day. If you are reading this before the event, call up some friends and invite them to the park for the food, fun and games. As the Epistle to the Hebrews has reminded us we serve a great and glorious Savior who is above the angels. He is worthy of our praise and one of the ways we worship him is by enjoying and giving thanks for his gifts. Among the greatest gifts has given us is us. It is right and good to share each other's company, to dine and fellowship together.

It is right and good that we share the gifts offered us with others as well. To this end our Pike's Mission ConneX-ion (that is ourselves and seven other UMC churches we share outreach and missions with) are hosting an exciting Community Picnic in the Park on September 24. We will be part of providing food, games, and entertainment at Overlook's Destination Playground from 2-7 that day. The event will be capped off by a performance by nationally acclaimed Weaver Believer band at 5:30. Plan to be there. Serve if you can. Do your friends and neighbors a favor by bringing them out to see the joy of the body of Christ sharing blessings. September is our annual Fish Fry . This is a great opportunity for the community to see us having a great time working together.

We work hard and have fun. We and our neighbors enjoy the delicious food. The church receives much needed ministry funding. This is the third of our four major fund raising events for the year and it needs all hands on deck sponsoring, serving, and selling to make it a success. Through sponsoring the items needed for the Fish Fry you are able to let those who join us for dinner double your giving to the church. September is also the re-launch of our youth outreach S.O.S. or Serving our Savior. This year's program is focused on service and the whole family is encouraged to participate. Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, friends of all ages are all encouraged to show the youth how the Body of Christ serves the community. Sharon Raup has planned a service project for the second Wednesday of each month as well as a family movie to enjoy on the fourth Wednesday.

More fun is coming in October. By November our cornucopias will be full of things for which to be thankful. See you at the dessert table.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Larry Kipp
