The Fair Maiden

There was once a maiden so fair that her beauty was beyond compare. Words seem so inadequate to describe how beautiful she looked. She had the softest ivory skin framed by the dark lustrous hair. Her smile was so sweet that anyone who saw it would immediately succumb to her charm.

Throughout the land all of the other young maidens would try to look just as fair. They tried powders and creams of all types from both near and far. Some even tried magic potions from the Old Witch who lived deep in the great forest. All of this and more they did to no avail, no matter what they did not one ever succeeded. There just didn't seem to be a way to imitate the radiance that they were all so envious of.

But if only they had looked deeper they would have found the secret of the fair maiden's great beauty. It wasn't the beauty on the outside, but rather the beauty that radiated from within that was her secret. You see it was the kind and generous heart within that gave such radiance to the beauty that was on the outside.

So great was her beauty that suitors came not only from throughout the realm but even from distant lands. Princes and paupers, bakers and candlestick makers, all these and more were trying to win the favor of the fair maiden.

So many young men had come to win her heart and offered great things to win her hand. Great castles, vast lands, jewels of all sizes and types, great wealth and high status were offered to her. So long had they been coming some thought that she would never make a choice.

Who she chose and why is not for me to tell. I have been sworn to secrecy and it would ruin the mystery of the tale if I were to tell you. But be assured that one of the suitors had won her heart and had her hand in marriage. Who do you think it may have been and what did they have to offer to win her love?
